Foreign workers in Alberta alleged to be abused  even by the federal government

“A group of Edmonton janitors is suing a cleaning company for $42,435 over allegations that overtime money is being held back and that they have been threatened with deportation. The janitors, many of whom are temporary foreign workers from the Philippines, say their employer, University of Alberta contractor Bee Clean Building Maintenance, is refusing to pay them tens of thousands of dollars in overtime. When the non-unionized workers questioned the company about the alleged lost wages, they claim they were being threatened with deportation. Danilo DeLeon, who is a temporary foreign worker from the Philippines, moved to Edmonton to work for Bee Clean about a year and a half ago. He said he works five, 12-hour shifts every week, with an extra seven-hour shift on what would otherwise be his day off. DeLeon said he’s supposed to get time and a half for anything more than 80 hours every two weeks. But Bee Clean has refused to pay, he claimed. When he told his employer he would contact a union or the Ministry of Labour about Bee Clean’s refusal to pay him, DeLeon said his boss threatened to have him deported. “My supervisor threatened to send me back home. He said the owner was upset,” he said. Yessy Byl, a temporary foreign worker advocate with the Alberta Federation of Labour, said the Bee Clean case is a prime example of exploitative issues temporary foreign workers across Canada face on a daily basis. Byl said the federal and provincial governments do nothing to protect temporary foreign workers if they are wrongfully terminated. In fact, governments make it impossible for the worker to get a new job, and in the end the worker is deported, she said. At no time does the employer get prosecuted by the federal government or provincial government [for the wrongful termination], she said. Its the workers who end up bearing the burden. There are more than 60,000 temporary foreign workers in Alberta, according to provincial officials.”

Canada is definitely not one big Country, but consists of many little countries, or regions that seem to have their own provincial, territorial laws, priorities, their own hidden agendas. The West, the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario included.

Yes some of the Canadian concerns Canada wide are very similar:
– For example Consumer protection including the cost of housing, the cost of living, food and clothing included, the cost of insurance, Phone Bills,  and the costs of transportation, gas, heating.
– Next there is the continually serious concern about the actual availability of Medicare, and hospitals as well especially when you are seriously ill, plus the valid concerns  of having the adequate  convalescent homes for the elderly, sick
– Then there is the cost of taxes, in reality and too often everyone pay taxes, and yes they are still too often wasted, and that includes too many hidden taxes now too. Public and Civil servants are rarely known for being well managed, or cost effective, rather they are known as being troublesome, wasteful, expensive, over indulged as well. Especially even the Police, RCMP it seems.
– Then there is the problem of too many crimes, that one tends to be concerned only when one encounters it, abuses,  illicit drugs, thefts, stolen cars, white collar crimes, frauds, identity theft. Here one finds out how too often inadequate, pretentious are the justice ministers and justice systems are now too.

It is a very serious, gross error to under rate me…

The still unrepentant wicked persons. Now sadly in my course of daily activities, travel I do personally encounter too often still unacceptably abusive, wicked persons   and I have two simple TYPICAL choices: I take an ostrich or sheep approach and I do  pretend, lie  that I  did not see it, or that basically does not concern me or I often rather next do take  real,  positive actions to now insure the same unacceptable wicked person does not repeat their unacceptable bad acts. Depending on the seriousness of the personal act now too.

One reason  too many wicked persons do not repent it cause they seem to think I too am only one person, another one of those too typical complainers, loud mouthed person whose bark is worse than his bite.. and it does seem we have mostly that type of complainers now too.  But in real life there are a few things that get my blood boiling, cause my blood pressure to rise and cause me to act immediately.. that especially includes abusive pastors, abusive cops, abusive medical care workers, and crooked accountants,  bad lawyers, crooked corporate managers, bad politicians, pretentious doctors  and perverse immigration consultants too  now too as you all can see in my posts.

Now I too have learned the great secret in helping bad people to personally repent or to change their wicked ways.. the public exposure and the demand of their rightful prosecuting, dismissal  of the same  wicked persons, as well as their bad superiors, and generally best done not by a phone call, but rather done in writing, with many copies to the right parties, news media, ministers, elected officials and the general public next too even  such as those you do eventually see on my web blogs https://postedat.wordpress.com/ and http://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/

Sadly even these days Doctors, Nurses, medical support staff  are human, they too sometimes try sometimes to get by with a minimal amount of personal effort, and so as result patients do not always get their proper medical care. They can  severely, seriously compromise the health of patients. A hospital patient may receive up to 12 different kinds of medication, all of which produce side effects, SOME  that can lead to serious complications and even death.

Elderly persons need more special care cause they do tend to lack  the basic vitamins found in our common foods that help also to reduce one’s personal stress and anxiety.. for a hungry persons tends to be continually stressed and anxious and also do often   manifest  depression as well.. and what the classic treatment for depression is time, healing, by giving them proper nourishment, and proper rest and sleep.. in this case supplemented by proper pain killers, not improper pain killers  and/or merely  given proper sleeping pills too. Malnutrition, even starvation was found to be the major cause of death among older people in hospitals. Anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals work in different ways by providing nutrients which control the metabolism rate and the hormone levels within our bodies. By keeping these two things stable we can provide a better mechanism to cope with stress and anxiety inducing situations. Most of the recommended anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals can be found in the foods that we eat and can simply be attained by eating a healthy and balanced diet covering all the major food groups. And that is why eating proper foods is important.

Many of ELDERLY PATIENTS, Active patients are also really still seriously depressed, and an untreated depression does not help their recovery.  A companionate, experienced in house depression counselor can clearly do great work with them and help them to have more  incentive to recover form their sickness, disabilities too. I have not met one good depression counselor yet  .  Treating the elderly as small kids is degrading to them and not beneficial furthermore. We should now treat them all first now with respect, as the adults that they are firstly too..  and with real compassion now in reality too..

A DORVAL QUEBEC CONVALESCENT HOME PATIENTS  had also nothing but really bad services in the ground floor dining room at BOTH lunch and supper for the meals – for the meals  were not prepared on time, the meals were even poorly prepared, the salad with the meals did not have any dressings on them as well, even twice, the supper was almost a repeat of the same lunch time meal too… and  some sick patients did not even  get their meals, some of the meals were even served cold, and next both the visitors, long term patients, new patients, almost of them were really, really upset. I have never seen so many troubled, upset patients at one time in my whole life. And still on top of that the waitresses they were quite rude, even had abused verbally the sick patients, and none, none of the was acceptable. Them telling any of the patients to shut up, to be quiet, to sit still is never acceptable here too and no matter what the excuses now are, were..

A  CONVALESCENT HOME EMPLOYEE HAS NOW DIRECTLY TOLD ME THAT IF A PATIENT NO LONGER WANTS TO EAT OR LIVE, SHE IS TO ALLOW HIM TO STARVE TO DEATH, SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO TRY TO FEED HIM.. FOR THIS  IS A DIRECT QUEBEC GOVERNMENT POLICY, IF SHE TRIES TO FEED THE PATIENT SHE WILL BE FIRED FROM HER JOB. IS THIS NOW TRUE?

Police told an afternoon news conference that Col. Russell Williams, 46, of Tweed, Ont., was arrested Sunday in Ottawa.  He’s charged with the first-degree murder of Jessica Lloyd, 27, of Belleville and Marie Comeau, a 38-year-old corporal with CFB Trenton’s 437 squadron who lived in Brighton.  Lloyd’s body was found earlier Monday in Tweed and a post-mortem is being scheduled at the Coroner’s Office in Toronto. Comeau was found dead in her home Nov. 25, 2009.  Williams is also charged with forcible confinement, break and enter and sexual assault after two women were sexually assaulted during two separate home invasions in the Tweed area in September of 2009. Williams will appear in bail court in Belleville this afternoon.  Lloyd was last heard from the night of Jan. 28 when she sent a text message to a friend.  She was reported missing the next day after she failed to show up for her job with the Tri-Board Student Transportation Services in Napanee.  Williams was appointed as the base commander of CFB Trenton last July.  He enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1987 after getting a degree in economics and political Science from the University of Toronto.  He got his wings in 1990 and spent two years teaching at the military’s flight training school.  While posted to squadrons in Shearwater, N.S., and Ottawa he flew the CC144 Challenger.  He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in June 2004, and was commanding officer of 437 Squadron in Trenton for two years.  Between December 2005 and June 2006, he was the commanding officer for Camp Mirage, the secretive Canadian Forces forward logistics base that’s not officially acknowledged by the government or military but has been widely reported to be near Dubai.  http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100208/national/missing_belleville_woman

8 Wing/CFB Trenton has been home base for the Huskies since 1961, providing the wide range of support services essential for the Squadron’s many and varied national and international missions.  437 Squadron is currently equipped with five CC-150 Polaris (A-310 Airbus) Aircraft, a familiar sight not only in the skies around Trenton, but also across Canada and around the world. The Polaris replaced the aging Boeing 707 in April 1997. Their primary role is long-range transport of personnel and equipment – and VIP airlift. Examples include operations in support of the Canadian Forces, NATO and numerous United Nations and Red Cross initiatives. 437 Squadron has earned an excellent reputation in the role of VIP transport. Members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister, the Governor General and various heads of State have been frequent passengers.Nicknamed the “Husky Squadron”, this unit adopted as its badge a husky’s head indicitive of its function of the glider towing and the transportation of essential freight. The Huskies are proud of their motto “Omnia Passim” (Anytime, Anywhere) and commit themselves to perpetuating their outstanding record of achievement. With some exceptions!

The highly specialized Behavioural Sciences and Analysis Services unit of the Ontario Provincial Police works on violent and sexual crimes and is integrally involved in the investigation that led to Col. Russell Williams being charged this week with two counts each of first-degree murder, forcible confinement and sexual assault.  Based at the OPP general headquarters in Orillia, Ont., about 150 kilometres north of Toronto, the unit was founded in 1995 and now encompasses 110 officers and civilian staff members in four broad areas.

Little more than a week ago,Jan. 29 , a Belleville woman, 27-year-old Jessica Lloyd, was reported missing when she failed to show up for her shift with Tri-Board Student Transportation in the town of Napanee.  Unconfirmed reports indicate next that she was abducted from her home and that Williams’ vehicle may have left behind distinctive tire tracks in the process.  “Russ is pretty meticulous. When he buys a set of tires, he buys the best that’s on the market. I guess they were a particular brand… they had a particular design on the tread,” Her body was found Monday in a secluded area not far from Tweed.

– In their bid to find information about Lloyd’s disappearance, OPP and Belleville police set up a road block on Highway 37 near Belleville on Feb. 4, and stopped and questioned motorists for 11 hours. Last Thursday, on a stretch of rural highway, they set up the equivalent of a RIDE-program spot check, only this time they were looking not for drinking drivers, but certain vehicles.

According to reports, police were looking for winter tires with a distinctive tread design.

Williams came to the attention of police during the roadblock, police have said, although they have not given out any more details.

– Williams was arrested in Ottawa on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Lloyd, and Comeau. He was also charged with the forcible confinement and sexual assault of the two Tweed women. he is being investigated for possible many more unsolved crimes, murders now as well even elsewhere

OBVIOUSLY A POLITICAL APPOINTEE.. AND ARE THERE MANY MORE LIKE HIM NOW?

CP BELLEVILLE, Ont. – The base commander of CFB TrentonColonel Russell Williams  has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of two eastern Ontario women and in the sexual assaults of two other women. News of the charges shocked the small communities in eastern Ontario that are at the center of the police investigation, as well as Canadian Forces Base Trenton, which handles tactical air support flights for Canada’s combat mission in Afghanistan and relief flights for Haiti. Colonel Russell Williams,  showed little interest in repairing the fractured family life that has followed him since he was young.  Two years ago his mother, Nonie, and brother Harvey reached out to Col. Williams in a bid at reconciliation following his parents’ divorce, the second time his  home life was torn asunder.  “Our relationship with him was broken off in early 2001, when our mother’s divorce from my stepfather caused a deep rift between him and my mother and myself,”  “We rarely had any contact until two years ago, when my mother and I tried to find a way to repair the family rift. We have had only minimal contact with him in the past two years. “We were shocked and appalled to learn of the crimes with which Col. Williams is being charged,” he said in a written statement, calling it “alarming and distressing news.” Harvey Williams. Similarly, relatives of Col. Williams’ stepfather, Jerry Sovka, an eminent nuclear scientist, described a family that maintained little contact. Born in England, Col. Williams was still young when his father, David, split with his mother and the two boys continued to live with their mother and new stepfather, Dr. Sovka.  Dr. Sovka  returned to Canada for a job at Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. in Toronto, where he helped design Canada’s early Candu nuclear plants, and later as a senior engineer with Ontario Hydro while the young Col. Williams attended Toronto’s Birchmount Collegiate in east Toronto. Dr. Sovka’s work led him to move several times, including four years in South Korea, a stint with the Montreal-based engineering firm SNC and Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station in New Brunswick, and even to Hawaii. Col. Williams remained in Toronto. From 1980 to 1982, he completed high school at Upper Canada College while boarding at the sprawling private boys school.  Col. Williams graduated with a degree in economics and political science from the University of Toronto in 1987 before embarking that same year on a military career while returning to his birth name Williams. As a pilot during the 1990s he flew VIP flights on the federal government’s Challenger aircraft that are used by federal politicians including the prime minister. A series of postings led him to higher rank and greater responsibility. On July 15, 2009, he was named as the commander of CFB Trenton .More charges against Col. Russell Williams, a wing commander at Canadian Forces Base Trenton who is accused of murdering two eastern Ontario women, aren’t being ruled out as the investigation continues.

Tory ridings get more stimulus money: Chrétien was known to dish out government money to Liberal-held ridings. But Harper he promised to do things differently.  “Promised to do things differently.”  Is there anything Harper has ever said that is true? Are Harper and his Cons Politically Corrupt? I say Yes! Worth noting is the Cons hold 46% of all ridings. 46% of ridings getting 60% of funds suggests something more then coincidence The depth of the sheer partisanship and dunious ethics of the cons never ceases to amaze me Pretty obvious political maneuvering. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/10/22/stimulus-spending.html ,

http://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2009/10/22/dealing-only-with-one-leaking-hole-of-many-in/

What about having  a valid,  real Federal economic development, job creation programs instead?  for  It is not surprising that the same Civil servants under the federal  Liberal government had suggested next again  a federal job creation program that would provide cash stimulant firstly now to their fellow buddies, the civil and public servants at the provincial , municipal levels, but what was rather surprising that the Conservative politicians had gone along with it.

Forget the crap that the Canadian Governments, especially municipalities are serving the public, including all of their civil and public servants, in reality they are mostly self serving, and basically not at all trying to control the tax payer’s costs, as a result major rampant uncontrolled money abuses, thefts,  corruptions,  etc continues occur Canada wide too..

 best-lie

Rather also now what real effort has been made to work with the private sector to stimulate more valid, effective new job creations programs, that just do not benefit the often corrupt, incompetent municipalities and related contractors? The Conservative government’s economic stimulus spending spree that is pouring billions of tax dollars into road construction projects and infrastructure is just not good enough.. Real employment, and  our actual economic outputs are the much better, practical  gauge of Canada’s, our present well-being.

And it is also an undeniable fact now  that too many Politicians in Canada, both Members of the provincial legislatures, and members of parliament, do lie, they make false claims that they the servants of the people, they thus are mainly looking after the needs, concerns of the citizens of Canada  but mainly instead wrongfully do now use tax payer’s money, do use governmental resources and personnel  to distribute  unsolicited material to others to promote firstly their own re-ELECTION and TO PROMOTE  their own political party as we clearly all have seen the New Conservative Ministers wrongfully also now doing OFTEN NOW as well.

OTTAWA – Stimulus money earmarked for Quebec is only trickling down to communities in the province, while other provinces are awash in federal funds, an analysis by The Canadian Press shows. the analysis was able to count, locate and evaluate 4,833 projects that have been announced coast-to-coast. Far fewer than 10 per cent of those projects are in Quebec, Canada’s second most populous province.  Of the 4,833 projects published on the government’s centre piece map as of Oct. 25, less than 300 are in Quebec. Ontario claims more than 2,500, while Alberta and British Columbia both have more than 300 each.  officials at both the municipal and federal levels were quick to admit  that stimulus has been slow to get off the ground in the province. There have been lots of announcements, but the work seems more and more problematic for they have taken so much time to finalize agreements.  Most of the federal stimulus money requires agreement and matching funds from between the provincial and municipal governments. Several broad agreements have been announced in principle, but individual projects are not getting the go-ahead quickly.

Pressure also is now mounting on the federal government to relax its two-year limit on much of the stimulus spending. The Parliamentary Budget Officer validated the case for an extension last week, saying the two-year limit is causing a rush to build infrastructure, possibly forcing cities to make hasty decisions, and prompting construction prices to soar.

The federal government preaches accountability, but is being only selectively transparent about its own spending activities.  Compare this cloaking to Stephen Harper’s boasting about his stimulus package. Even here, there is less transparency than meets the eye. Considerable work by opposition parties and the media, including this newspaper, have shown patterns of spending to favour Conservative ridings, and suggest that less money has flowed to actual construction projects than the government would like the public to believe.  http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/editorials/keeping-secrets-hurts-democracy/article1337775/

It really causes us to think as to what is the federal Conservative government wrongfully hiding here from us all as well… The Conservative government was accused Thursday of playing an elaborate shell game to prevent Canadians from following the billions of dollars being spent on federal infrastructure stimulus. New Democrat Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre) told a parliamentary committee the government has done everything possible to hide how much of the $12 billion earmarked for infrastructure has been spent or how many jobs created.

We all in Canada already  could be facing more taxes, severe service cuts as the federal  and provincial governments  do brace  some more for a “long, slow grind” to economic recovery that included already unacceptable government wastes,  high deficits that even will take years to over come..

Now about having  a valid,  real costs controls, what was rather surprising that the Conservative politicians had gone along with it.  What is also surprising is the new federal Conservative Government like it’s Liberal predecessor does not want to regulate the taxpayer’s money abuses.. surprise , surprise…

Just a Small Detail.. CBC contacted the office of Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt to ask about the lobbyist who helped organize a fundraiser on her behalf on Sept. 24.  Michael B. McSweeney is vice-president of the Cement Association of Canada.   Both he and the association are registered with the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada.  And a search of the registry shows that on Sept. 24, the Cement Association reported having lobbied Raitt directly.   In an email to Raitt’s new communications wrangler Jocelyne Turner, CBC News asked for more information about McSweeney’s involvement in the fundraiser, as well as whether McSweeney was paid for his services.  “Minister Raitt is committed to working with the Ethics Commissioner and is cooperating fully. The Minister will abide by any ruling by the Commissioner.   “The issue is now being examined by the Ethics Commissioner and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.” http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/politicalbytes/2009/10/just-a-small-detail.html

and is this related to the Quebec corruptions scandals going on presently as well.. after all some of  of the biggest cement companies are in Montreal.. Lafarge Cement included.. and is this why the Conservative federal government does not want to get into Quebec’s legal affairs too?

Gomery wants new inquiry – this one into alleged mob, construction, politics ties  MONTREAL – The man who led a historic inquiry into political corruption thinks another one is necessary amid allegations of criminal acitivity in the construction industry and municipal politics. Mafia experts describe such corruption as a national occurence but so far governments at the federal, provincial, and municipal level have been resistant to the idea of a probe. The retired judge said large donors wield too much influence when it comes to the awarding of municipal contracts, and that an inquiry could explore those links.. Quebec’s highways cost 11 per cent more per kilometre than in Ontario and 43 per cent more than in the rest of Canada… Curbing corruption could save several hundred million dollars every year.. adds 20 to 35 per cent to the cost of public works projects… the savings would pay for better repairs to, and snow removal from, streets and sidewalks. It would reduce pressure on raising property taxes, parking-meter fees, and bus fares. And it would make tram lines (which cost $40 million per kilometre) more affordable.

“Now it’s fair to say my experiences in politics over the past four years have reminded me why 97% of Canadians do not belong to a party”

A BAD CONSERVATIVE IS NOT ANY BETTER THAN A BAD LIBERAL. BASHING THE LIBERALS WILL NOT CHANGE THE FACTS, REALITY AS TO HOW STILL THE BAD CONSERVATIVES ARE.

It has always confounded me as to why the crooks, abusers  too often do still do think they can get away with now, next and forever.

Canada fell to 19th place this year from 13th last year on Reporters Without Borders’ index of freedom of the press. The analysis includes print, broadcast and online journalism in 175 countries.

It is also a  vintage  Conservative PM Stephen Harper style, as a wolf in sheep clothing, that now continually still  falsely evades, evades, evades facing his  own negative truths too, for when it comes to dealing about what he actually does, what he actually stands for, he the Great Evader demonstrates openly to all his own  extraordinary lack of honesty,  forthrightness and any credible intellectual weight

FOR WE TEND TO KNOW THAT THEY THE CROOKS, ABUSERS TOO,  NOW ARE NOT ABOUT TO STOP THEIR WRONG DOINGS. RATHER THEY WILL NEXT EVEN ESCALATE, CONTINUE IN THEM. AND THAT IS ANOTHER VALID REASON  THEY DO NEED TO BE EXPOSED, PROSECUTED AND STOPPED. EVEN FOR THE GOOD OF US ALL

It is not the rapists, drunk drivers, tax money abusers  that mostly  fill the courts calendars, docks rather it is mostly the revenue generating traffic tickets..

Ottawa vows tougher white-collar sentencing  OTTAWA – The Conservative government says legislation to be tabled Wednesday will set a two-year mandatory minimum federal jail sentence for fraud over $1 million. What a joke.. Steal  one million dollars, go to jail for 2 years only, and when you come out you can likley spend the money you have hidden as well..

Harper finds even more jobs for the faithful –

Here is what all politicians, cops, pastors too, in fact  all persons need to learn..

A good name is worth more than any amount of material wealth, silver and gold you do try to acquire, pursue at any costs, because still most people next really do hate it  when next many other people talk bad about them, despise  them openly to others, and they do often next regret having done all the bad things that have now led them to a very low name, a tarnished and a disrespected one.

0ottawa,PARLIAMENT

Most people also find out that spending a lot of effort pursing a glorified  career in the end had a very costly price to pay, for they have put in a lot of time and energy, some even wasted too, while they could have rather being doing something good instead, rather had been with their family and friends.

The human rights abuse  of anyone next very shortly has a big drastic, personal price to pay as well..
businessman

Stealing is not worth it for what you steal next tends not to bring you the happiness you originally had thought it would, so you continue to look for happiness, ironically some by continuing to steal..

The bad friends, and bad acquaintances  lead to very bad company and  corrupting irreversibly generally one’s personal morality even more.

Wrongful inactions, Cover ups, False denial of bad politicians, bad cops, bad persons, false pastors, false priests are much too common but nevertheless they do get exposed, revealed to all as to what they are often now like  too, and get what they deserve, and not the first or last time.

Public exposure and prosecution of the guilty still serves as a rightful deterrent example to all and is still one of the best approaches on how to deal with the evil persons. Even the Bible records openly the unrepentant sins of many persons and their real  negative consequences. Too many of the preachers are unacceptably also guilty of preaching “Do what I say and not what I do still too”.

VANCOUVER — A $5 million legal bill for defending a religious order against charges of sexual abuse has landed a B.C. senator in hot water. Sen. Mobina Jaffer, a Liberal appointment to Canada’s upper chamber, must undergo a conduct review, the Law Society of B.C. announced Tuesday. The Order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate sued Jaffer, her son Azool Jaffer-Jeraj and their firm, accusing them of overbilling the order for legal work done from 2000 to 2004. The lawsuit was settled before it went to trial.  Now the case will proceed to a conduct review. “Undergoing a conduct review is a serious matter for any lawyer,” said Stuart Cameron, the society’s director of discipline.   Ms. Mobina Jaffer was appointed as a Senator to represent British Columbia in June of 2001.  Having been born in Uganda, and trained in law in Britain she had a  career as a lawyer and was active on many legal and charitable foundations, as well as being involved in local politics.  She was the first Muslim ever appointed to the Senate and the first African-born as well. Ms. Jaffer is the deputy chair of the Senate Committee for Human Rights and also sits on the Committees for Official Languages, Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the joint committee for the Library of Parliament. Anyone checked her Senate expense accounts yet too? http://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/one-of-harpers-boys-in-trouble/

Sep 10, 6:12 AM CP  HALIFAX, N.S. – A judge in Nova Scotia will begin hearing arguments today on whether to certify a class-action suit against the Roman Catholic church over the alleged sexual abuse of children by its priests.  John MacKiggan, a lawyer representing the claimants, says he will present arguments to a Supreme Court justice over the alleged decades-old abuse in the diocese of Antigonish.    The lawsuit was launched last year by Ronald Martin, whose brother wrote a suicide note in 2002 that led to charges of sex crimes against a priest from the diocese. In the suit, Martin claimed the diocese failed to protect children in its care when it became aware of the alleged abuse. The church reached a proposed settlement with the plaintiffs last month, but it has to be certified by the court. The judge also has to approve the proposed settlement of more than $13 million, which would be available to people who were allegedly sexually assaulted by any priest of the Catholic Episcopal Corp. of Antigonish since Jan. 1, 1950. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090910/national/ns_diocese_lawsuit

Former N.S. bishop charged with possession of child porn.  Raymond Lahey, the former bishop of the diocese of Antigonish, is known as the man who oversaw a $15-million settlement with people who said they had been sexually abused by priests in the diocese dating back to 1950. He was arrested at the Ottawa Airport last week after members of the Canada Border Services Agency performed a random check of his laptop computer. Lahey has been charged with distributing and selling child pornography.  On Saturday, Lahey, 69, announced his resignation as bishop of the Antigonish diocese. In a letter to parishioners, he said he needed time for “personal renewal.” http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2009/09/30/ns-bishop-charged.html
